COLISTIN-MOX 20/50 powder

Composition:

Each 100 gm contains:

  • Amoxicillin as trihydrate: 20 gm

  • Colistin sulphate: 50 MIU

  • (As per Innovator’s Specification)

Description

  • Amoxicillin: A broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic used in veterinary medicine, particularly for poultry, to treat respiratory, gastrointestinal, and systemic infections. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis. When administered orally, it is well-absorbed, has wide distribution with minimal metabolism, and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. In poultry, it is also excreted via the bile and can be found in the feces.

  • Colistin sulphate: A polypeptide antibiotic primarily used to treat bacterial infections caused by G-negative bacteria in poultry. It is bactericidal and exerts its antibacterial effect by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane. It binds to the lipopolysaccharides and phospholipids in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, disrupting membrane integrity and leading to cell lysis. Colistin sulphate is poorly absorbed from the GIT when administered orally, is minimally metabolized, and is excreted mainly via feces.

Indications

  • Gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tract infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to amoxicillin and Colistin, such as Clostridium, Corynebacterium, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, and Salmonella in poultry.
